Cake Pops and Cake Truffles- Video Tutorial
By Popular Demand: Cake Pops & Cake Truffles! I hope that you enjoy this video on making these adorable, sweet treats!
In this video, I'm using plain (undoctored) cake from a cake mix. As mentioned in the video, the proportions of cake to frosting that I used were: 1 8" cake layer (½ of a cake mix) to 4 T frosting. This may vary depending on the kind of cake you are using.
For the chocolate coating: 4 T shortening combined with 14 oz. candy melts. Adjust to your liking!
Hi Wensday, yes, it is basically the same thing, it is a chocolate that does not need to be tempered. You may need to adjust the amount of shortening to get it thin enough for a nice smooth coating on your cake pop.
If you go to the Forum and enter cake pops in the search bar, there are several helpful forum discussions on making them.
Sorry, Im from mexico, what "T" means???
Hello!
T=Tablespoon
t= teaspoon
Hi
what type of shortening you use?
Hello-- We are using Crisco in the video-- but other brands of vegetable shortening would be fine.
THANK YOU
Hello Melissa! I absolutely love all of your tutorials, you are truly an inspiration! I have a quick question for you regarding the white holder that you used while dipping the cake truffle into the melted chocolate: Where did you buy this tool?
Hi! I love this idea, just wondering how many cake pops I can get out of 1 layer? I need to know for a party. Thanks Candy
Hi Candy, when you use a boxed cake mix, one box is enough cake to make approx. 48 cake pops.
i have had the problem of my cake pops cracking. what could be the cause of this?
Hi Everyone, I just made some vanilla cake truffles. I followed the instructions and they turned out pretty good. I will be making more of these!!
I use coconut oil (the cold processed variety that is solid at RT) in lieu of shortening. The coconut flavor is subtle but I think makes the white chocolate taste better. It cuts a bit of the sweetness, adds a hint of coconut flavor, and just like shortening, thins the chocolate for easier coating. Just make sure it is indeed solid before adding to the chocolate.
