Should this easy Boston Cream Pie be refrigerated?

Yes, because of the vanilla cream filling, you will need to refrigerate the recipe. Store in an airtight container or sealed bakery box.

However, for best taste and texture, bring the cake from the refrigerator a couple of hours before serving. This will give the cake and chocolate glaze a chance to warm and soften.

Can a Different Vanilla Filling be Used?

This easy vanilla cream filling is our favorite because it is nice and thick, and easy to make!

What if Chocolate Glaze is too thin or too thick?

Accepted Answer

The chocolate glaze for the top of the Boston Cream Pie is going to be effected by temperature. If it is still too hot- just after making- it needs more time to cool off and thicken.

If the glaze is too thick, it just needs to be warmed up a bit. We do this in very small increments in the microwave. Stir as you go to ensure it is warming evenly.

Can White Cake Mix be substituted for Yellow Cake Mix in this recipe?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can use white cake mix instead if you prefer (or if that is what you have on hand)!

When preparing the recipe, ignore the directions on the box of cake mix and follow our recipe. It will be more like a vanilla cake-- slightly lighter, but the egg yolks and vanilla extract will make it more yellow.
