How to Make a Floral Wedding Dress Cake
- For this cake, we started with a 9x13 sheet cake although this design would work on any size of sheet cake or even the front of a double barrel (tall) cake.
- For the flowers, I kneaded a little tylose powder into fondant and rolled it to about ⅛ inch thickness. Then, using a variety of flower cutters, I cut out my shapes (and added sugar pear & dragee centers). I also cut out the bodice of the dress.
- After applying the vanilla buttercream frosting to the top of the cake and crumb coating around the sides, I chilled the cake in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes to firm up the frosting. Then, I smoothed over the frosting with a hot spatula. While the buttercream was still firm, I used my wedding dress template to mark off where the wedding dress would be.
- Next, I piped buttercream shells using a piping tip 21 around the sides.
Time to decorate!
- I added the bodice of the dress to the frosted sheet cake (using the markings that I made in the frosting as a guide). Then, I filled in with our flowers. I love how this simple design turned out!
