Sweet Baby in a Hammock~ Cake Video Tutorial
Today's cake is perfect for all skill levels of cake decorating and features a sweet baby in a hammock! I have seen a few adorable versions of this idea on baby shower invitations and thought that it would make the cutest baby shower cake!
Baby shower cakes are always a favorite of mine to create because there are just so many CUTE themes to use for inspiration!
In fact, don't miss our full roundup of FAVORITE Baby shower cake inspiration which you can find Roundup of the CUTEST Baby Shower Cakes,
as well as our collection of the Cutest Baby Shower Cake Ideas for Girls!
One of my favorite parts of this particular Baby in a Hammock cake design is the texture and dimension of the leaves. We also decided to use fondant for our sweet baby to keep our lines nice and sharp-- and especially for the baby's face- it's not easy to pipe a face in buttercream and have it turn out just right ;0)
We are so excited to have this adorable and surprisingly simple baby shower cake to share, and we think that you will love how quickly this design comes together!
Our cake is a double barrel cake decorated in buttercream with a sweet fondant hammock and bunnies. This could easily work on an all fondant cake also! If you've never made a double barrel cake (tall!) before and would like to learn more, we demonstrate this method in our Cute Bunny Cake free video tutorial!
This has been one of our most popular baby shower cake designs! We hope that you enjoy it!
Materials:
In this tutorial, we are working with a 6 inch double barrel {tall} cake, but the design could be adapted to any size cake. If you'd like to learn more about double barrel cake construction, be sure to check out our double barrel Bunny Cake video tutorial! The cake is frosted with the Fluffy Vanilla Buttercream Recipe in our Recipes section.
Fondant: A small amount for the baby face & hammock
Coloring gel: Americolor Copper {skin}, Lemon Yellow, Wilton Leaf Green, Chocolate Brown, Pink
Food Coloring Pens (ours are Americolor): Pink & Black for baby's eyes & mouth. You could also use a tiny paintbrush or toothpick to apply coloring gel mixed with a bit of vodka or lemon extract.
Piping Tips: Wilton 3 round, Wilton 352 leaf tip, Wilton 233 grass tip
Spatula: We used a small offset spatula to create texture
In today's video, we used the Fluffy Vanilla Buttercream Frosting recipe pictured below. Any vanilla frosting will do. Our Classic Vanilla Buttercream is a great option too!
So adorable!
