Pound Cake FAQs

Yes! Pound Cakes freeze beautifully. Simply wrap with plastic wrap, followed by foil. We often freeze our cakes while they are still slightly warm, but you can freeze leftover cake as well.

To thaw the cake, move the wrapped cake from the freezer to the refrigerator the night before. Then, move to the kitchen counter then next morning and continue to warm to room temperature. Once condensation has stopped forming on the foil, it is fine to unwrap.

Pound cake first originated in 18th century Europe. The original classic recipe was a delicious, easy cake recipe that called for a pound of each ingredient: a pound of flour, a pound of butter, a pound of eggs, and a pound of sugar.

We have a large collection Bundt Cakes on our site as well! Our Strawberry Bundt Cake and Lemon Bundt Cake are two popular examples. Any cake baked in a bundt pan can be referred to as a bundt cake.

However, pound cakes are generally going to be more dense with a tighter crumb as they usually contain more butter, sugar, and eggs.

Our favorite pound cakes are ultra moist with a velvety soft texture. Many of our favorites contain either buttermilk, sour cream, or cream cheese frosting. Cakes with an extra boost of acidity soften the strands of gluten in the recipe, resulting in a more tender cake.

In addition, some of our cakes contain cake flour, which has a lower protein content. This also results in a softer crumb.

Finally, using whipping cream instead of milk also adds wonderful richness of flavor and results in a more tender crumb.

Here are just a few examples: Our Lemon Blueberry Pound Cake which contains sour cream, our Cream Cheese Pound Cake which contains cream cheese and buttermilk, our Lemon Pound Cake which contains buttermilk, and our Whipping Cream Pound Cake. All of these pound cakes are rich, soft and tender!

No, pound cakes do not need refrigeration unless they have a perishable glaze or topping. You can store in an airtight container on the kitchen counter.
